Norman Chad criticizes Late-Reg decision of WSOP

Just a few days ago, the World Series of Poker released the tournament schedule for next year.

The 51st edition of the WSOP will again be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from May 26th to July 15th, 2023. The highlight will, of course, be the $10,000 Main Event. But at the most prestigious tournament in the world, there is an innovation. And not everyone likes it.

From 1 to July 14th 2020, the $10,000 Main Event of the WSOP will take place, at the same time the successor of world champion Hossein Ensan will be determined. At the Main Event 2020, however, there will be a, not unimportant, change.

Late registration is possible until the end of the sixth blind level of the first matchday, and even until the end of the first blind level of the second matchday. The Main Event starts with 60,000 chips.

In other words: If you want to skip day 1, you can only enter on the second day and save yourself the tough wrestling in the early hours of the tournament.

But does it lose its charm? Many amateurs and birds of paradise shape the first days of the tournament, bring their own stories and fates with them to Rio and want to fulfil a great dream: to sit at a table with one of the big stars of the scene – right from the first second!

Slowly rising blinds, illustrious characters, bizarre side stories and, of course, the seat required by all players are what make the WSOP Main Event so appealing. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon where you have to fight your way through from the first to the last second.

Is the WSOP playing away sympathies with its controversial decision, especially with hobby players?

The decision doesn’t go down very well with individual experts either. Commentator legend Norman Chad found clear words in the social media and criticized the decision of those responsible. “The late registration on day 2 of the World Series of Poker Main Event is a terrible (x16!) decision by my friends at the WSOP,” he wrote on Twitter, venting his anger.

Also, Norman Chad pleads that “everyone should start on the same basis” and sees the “integrity” of the tournament in danger. He even went one step further and imagined possible horror scenarios about “UNLIMITED Re-Entry” at the WSOP.

Chad received encouragement, but also a headwind. Poker pro-Jason Mercier countered the cult commentator and twittered that the new rule was “really, really, really, really, really” good. He reaffirmed that the start on day 2 was ultimately a disadvantage for the players concerned. It remains to be seen how the decision will be accepted by the players next summer.
