How Dario Manta became FIFA Swiss Champion 2019

A good two weeks have passed since Dario Manta was crowned FIFA Swiss Champion at the Fantasy Basel. We look back.

The Coca-Cola eCup has been with us almost since the beginning of the year. Various qualifiers were used to find the best FIFA players in Switzerland. In 1v1, but also for the first time in 2v2. Both categories reached their peak at the Fantasy Basel when it came to the final matches.

In the duo category, the FCB team Luca “Lubo” Boller and Tim “TheStrxnger” Katnawatos met the power eSports duo Leandro “Dufty80x” Curty and Fabio “JCobra” Pechlaner. Although Basel won 2:0 in the Best Of 3 in the end, the opponents offered an exciting game, which was not as clear as the final result might suggest. FC Basel thus won the 2019 Swiss Champion title, at least in eSports.

Sunday saw the grand final of the 1v1 tournament. Here Stefan “Topik” Beer, who is under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach, played against the unknown Dario Manta. Manta started the Coca-Cola eCup as a completely blank sheet of paper and was able to secure the title with a 2:1 win against Topik. Now the whole of FIFA Switzerland knows him, and he’s taking home hefty prize money of 11,000 Swiss francs.
