At this year’s Esports Awards, the League of Legends Team of G2 Esports received the eSports Team of the Year award.
With this title, the organization is gold plating its already successful year. Not only did Luka “Perkz” Perkovic’s team win both splits of the 2019 LEC season, but they also achieved the best international result a European team has achieved in the last eight years.
Founder and CEO Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez could not be there in person. Still, he thanked the team personally – in the meanwhile familiar G2 Esports manner – with a short video message on Twitter.
Also via other social networks, short words of thanks were addressed to his fans: “We have all worked very hard and feel honoured to be awarded as the best eSports team of the year among all possible candidates. All this would never have been possible without your encouragement, your memes, your interactions and your support. Thank you very much! We will continue to work hard next year to keep this title […].”
The CS:GO team of Astralis and San Francisco Shock from the Overwatch League were awarded second and third place respectively. Astralis, after a very successful year last year, has not let anything burn this year and dominated the tournament scene. San Francisco Shock, who after a weak debut, has now become a favourite in their league in their second year, was equally dominant.
