WSOPE in King’s – Daniel Negreanu now favourite in POY race

Besides the fifteen bracelets that will be awarded at King’s Resort during the World Series of Poker Europe, there is also a financially uninteresting but ideally very valuable title to win.

The popularity of the annual WSOP Player of the Year dignity is reflected in the fact that, with the exception of Daniel Zack and Jason Gooch, all players who were in the top ten after the Las Vegas WSOP travelled to Rozvadov.

Once again, the race is very exciting, and the lead has changed several times in the last few days.

Change of leadership and DNegs run

Shaun Deeb was able to replace Robert Campbell at the top, but after two small cashes at Event 2 and 3, the Australian returned with an eighth place at the 25k Platinum Highroller and retook the lead.

But Campbell’s joy didn’t last long. With strong performances at the events 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11, where he was in the prize money and even reached the final table at the 25k Mixed, Daniel Negreanu was able to collect a lot of points and push himself to the top.

Since Negreanu is the only POY candidate to compete in the 100k Diamond Highroller (unless Campbell or Deeb still buy in today, which is unlikely) and is in a promising top ten spot there, he could score more points. For a place at the final table, there would be at least 300 points, which would increase his lead.

No preliminary decision yet

However, even then would not all days be evening. At the €2,500 Short Deck starting today there won’t be too many points because of the expected manageable number of participants, but at the €10,350 Main Event and at the final €550 Colossus you can hit it again.

At both tournaments, a victory brings in a four-digit number of points, which would turn everything upside down again.

Realistically, only Campbell, Deeb and fourth-placed Phillip Hui Negreanus can prevent the third POY title after 2004 and 2013. Ismael Bojang, who is currently in 10th place, would have to land twice in front to pass DNeg!
