Ninjas in Pyjamas and Chaos Esports Club were eliminated in the group stage of the Dota 2 World Championship The International (TI9). Both teams could not win after eight matches and did not make it into the main phase.
In the system of two games per match, NiP and Chaos could only draw three times 1-1 in their respective groups. After all, both teams achieved small successes against tournament favourites: Chaos could win a game against Team Secret and NiP a game against Vici Gaming.
With the elimination of the two teams also two German players were eliminated: Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann (Chaos) and Adrian “Fata” Trinks (NiP). With Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi (Team Liquid) and Maximilian “qojqva” Bröcker (The Alliance), two Germans remain in the tournament. Both start from the lower bracket into the main phase and have a long way to go to the final.
The strongest team of the group stage with six wins and two draws were the reigning World Champions OG in Group B. The predominantly European team around captain Johan “N0tail” Sundstein starts the tournament in the Upper Bracket and has to play first against Newbee. In Group A, PSG.LGD made it to the top with five wins and three draws.
The main phase of the Dota 2 World Championship starts on Tuesday. The prize money for The International 2019 has set a new record with over 33 million US dollars.
