The Six Invitational, the Rainbow Six Victory World Championship, is over. In the end, Spacestation Gaming triumphed with a remarkable comeback.
The Brazilian team of the Swedish eSports organization Ninjas in pyjamas had been writing a fairytale since the beginning of the tournament. A bankruptcy against TSM followed the convincing group victory in the quarter-finals.
The Loser Bracket should then be the way for NiP to the final. With G2 Esports the Brazilians threw out the reigning world champion, after which DarkZero and BDS Esport had to drop their sails. In the Losers’ Final, the revenge against Team SoloMid followed.
Dominance against Handicap
In the Grand Finals, the team from the Upper Bracket will get a free ticket. With this, Spacestation Gaming automatically started the match with 1:0. After that, the Ninjas turned up the heat and dominated on Villa and Border at will. Gabriel “pino” Fernandes scored an Ace as the attacker, and the score was a clear 7:2 on Border.
The third Map Clubhouse match also looked very good for the Brazilians. With 4-0 NiP took the lead before SSG Psycho forced Psycho into a 1v4. The team captain could only secure one kill out of the shortage. After that, the mistakes of the Ninjas became more and more frequent. Alec “Fultz” Fultz correctly anticipated some badly chosen peaks and was instrumental in equalizing.
Morale and skill
The final map was then bank. SSG started on the defender side and took out the defusor with a good C4. In round 2, “Fultz” opened with a style kill on Murilo “Muzi” Moscatelli. After good initial damage, he threw his C4 perfectly and took “Muzi” every opportunity to avoid the attack.
NiP seemed to have lost the thread. Numerous mistakes on their side and the good macro play of SSG went through the final map.
At 6:3 for Spacestation “Muzi” became the last hope. The defusing had already started when he found himself in a 1v4. Without another kill, he went down.
Spacestation Gaming is R6S World Champion 2020
“The title means everything to us! This is our life! We’ve only been a team for a few months now, and all we’ve done is play wins, talk about our game and try to keep improving,” says Troy “Canadian” Yaroslawski. “These guys all have the mindset of champions.”
With the win, the team will take home $1 million in prize money. The Ninjas will still receive $450,000. SSG will play eUnited on March 23rd in Pro League Season 11, and the Ninjas will play FaZe on March 24th.
