LoL: European champion prevails

Matchday 7 is over, and G2 Esports are now alone at the top after a previously divided lead with Fnatic and Origen.

Origen and Fnatic share second place, each winning a match on Matchday 7, and G2 Esports beat the other favourites to the title.

G2 Esports against Origen

In the first round, G2 Esports already won against Origen. Already at the beginning of the match on matchday 7, it was clear that Origen will not have an easy game. Jankos secured the opponent Red Buff with Lee Sin and almost triggered the passive of Xerxe’s Zac.

The Blue Buff a short time later was also to fall into his hands, Xerxe could not defend himself and again narrowly escaped death. While Jankos and Wunder on the top lane provided the first-blood against Alphari’s Gangplank, Mikyx defeated Origens Upset on the bot lane. He secured the kill together with Destiny after they both hid in the bush.

Xerxe then focused on the mid-lane, securing a kill against Perkz there as well, while Jankos continued to try the top-lane. After G2’s Jungler on the bot lane took a kill against Upset, Xerxe reacted immediately and secured the Rift Herald. A small team fight in the middle led to another kill for Jankos.

Origen then took care of the first tower of the game on the bot-lane. Although Jankos made the early game difficult for Xerxe, there was never a feeling of Origen’s resignation. After 15 minutes, Origen was in the lead in terms of gold.

A few mid-game fights and a relatively even gold score later, a kill by Xerxe provided the baron buff from G2 Esports. This provided the decisive gold advantage so that G2 Esports could finish the game safely.

Also, in this match, G2 Esports already won in the first round. This should remain so in week 7. G2’s match-up was completely based on Janko’s Olaf-Pick. Wunder chose Janna on the top lane, while Yuumi came in as a supporter. Fnatic in return bet on knock-ups from Yasuo, Sett, and Gragas.

After 10 minutes and several failed ganks, the score was still 0-0, but Fnatic secured the Rift Herald and thus the first tower of the match on the top lane. Shortly after, Jankos took advantage of the opportunity and ganked Bwipo on the bot lane, first Blood for G2 Esports.

Another tower on the top lane secured Fnatic an early gold advantage in the 15th minute, so Fnatic fought G2 in their jungle in the 18th minute. The fight ended in a 2 for 2, and Fnatic showed a strong performance in the further course of the match and extended the gold advantage by further picks against G2.

When Fnatic started the Baron in minute 28, Jankos sacrificed himself to steal the buff. With this, Fnatic gave up the whole gold advantage and opened the base for G2. When the buff ran out, Fnatic tried a team fight. Janna and Yuumi, however, kept the whole team alive while Fnatic had to take a safe way out of the fight via the jungle.

This brought in an inhibitor for G2 Esports. Shortly after that, Fnatic was able to push counter in the middle as Caps and Mikyx were on the top lane. When Hylissang wanted to open the fight with Rakan shortly after, he lost his life. The following Ace gave G2 Esports the victory.
