Overwatch: role selection and sigma

Sigma and the role selection are now live in Overwatch. Players can now harness the power of gravity and choose their role before the match.

With role selection, Blizzard Entertainment is revamping player assignment and ladder match queuing systems, as well as quick-search, so players can choose what role they want to play – tank, support, or damage – before they even start a match.

The player assignment then creates a team of two tanks, two supporters, and two damage heroes. Once the match begins, players can choose heroes from their chosen roles. At the end of a match (in both ladder and quick search matches), players return to the main menu and select their role before lining up for the next game.

Skill rating in ladder games will also be split into three separate ratings so that each player will have a separate rating for each of the three roles after the ladder games.

This change should be especially good for creating more balanced games between the two teams.

Who is Sigma?

Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist and unpredictable tank who can influence gravity through a failed orbital experiment.

Talon manipulated it and used as a living weapon because there is no way around it on the battlefield.
