BlizzCon 2019 featured five major Esports tournaments for Overwatch, Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft 2. Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li was the first female player to win a Hearthstone Championship event.
In the WoW area (AWC as well as MDI) the teams of Method dominated again.
The annual BlizzCon is the big exception. Between the panels, there is always some time left to look into the games of the Grandmasters Global Finals by Hearthstone, the time duels of the World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon Internationals or the exciting 3 versus 3 skirmishes of the Arena World Championship. And also this year it has been worthwhile to turn it on again. Below, we’ll tell you which teams and players won the BlizzCon 2019 Esports events.
Overwatch World Cup
Winner: Team USA
There’s a new champion in town! The USA won 3:0 against China in the final. Even higher is the victory against the three-time champion South Korea in the semi-finals as Team USA awarded MVP Jay “Sinatraa” Won. South Korea at least won the bronze medal in the duel with France.
Grandmasters Global Finals by Hearthstone
Winner: Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li
The Hearthstone tournament celebrated its premiere even before the first game: Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li was the first player ever to qualify for a Hearthstone Championship event. When she was able to send her American opponent Brian “bloodyface” Eason home with a clear 3-0 score in the final, the Chinese player broke all dams. Tearing, she said that someone had told her in the past that she had no business playing in a Hearthstone tournament. That someone might feel pretty stupid now.
World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon International
Winners: Method EU
The two Method teams (EU and US) have dominated the MDI throughout the season. It was therefore only fitting that the two teams met in the final. Despite an early Method EU Wipes in Atal’Dazar, Gingi, Meeres, Fragnance, Naowh and Zaelia won 3:0 against Method US.
Despite an early wipe by Method EU in Atal’Dazar, Gingi, Meeres, Fragnance, Naowh and Zaelia clearly won 3:0 against Method US in the MDI final.
World of Warcraft Arena World Championship
Winner: Method Black
Probably the most exciting final of the BlizzCon 2019, the players of Method Black and Wildcard Gaming delivered themselves in the final of the AWC. Wildcard Gaming already led 3:2, but could not make the bag. With their back to the wall, Whaazz, Raiku, Chas and Swapxy managed to turn the best-of-7 series around and win the final 4-3. Remarkable: While the first six games lasted very long and in the end were often decided with 50+ per cent damping, Method Black managed perhaps in the last round, the “best warrior in the arena area. Blizo, thanks to a long CC chain, a perfectly set smoke bomb and unbelievably much pressure already at minute 2:10 to get out of life.
StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals
Winner: Park “Dark” Ryung Woo
The Korean park “Dark” Ryung Woo was already in the BlizzCon finals three years ago but lost out then. This year, he met Italian insider Riccardo “Reynor” Romiti and won his first Championship trophy with a convincing 4-1 win.
