Application phase for the Gamescom award 2019 started

The application phase for the Gamescom award 2019 has started. Registered Gamescom exhibitors can apply for the award until 31st July 2019 (11:59 pm). The Gamescom award will be presented in a total of 28 categories.

This year, the submission will be made easier: It is sufficient to submit an approx. ten-minute video with game scenes (with commentary if necessary) to the award office for evaluation by the “Gamescom award jury”. However, the condition for submission is and remains that the title in question must be playable for fans and visitors of Gamescom at the exhibitor’s stand in the Gamescom entertainment area.

The winners of the Gamescom awards in the jury categories will already be announced in the new show “Gamescom Opening Night Live”, moderated by Geoff Keighley, on 19th August. Games or products that can only be tested at Gamescom or on which the audience votes, such as “Best Booth” or the Gamescom “Most Wanted” Consumer Award, will be announced in the Gamescom live stream on Saturday, 24th August. The award office is managed by the Digital Games Culture Foundation. You can find the conditions of participation and registration details here. The award office is responsible for the review and evaluation of the submitted games by the Gamescom award jury.

It goes on to say: “The Gamescom award 2019 comes up with some innovations: To ensure that a large number of categories, including all platform and most genre categories, can be awarded on the eve of the fair, Monday, 21st August 2019, the Gamescom award jury will view and evaluate the nominated games before the fair starts. A jury meeting will be held three weeks before Gamescom in Berlin. (…) Also, some categories have been revised, for example, the award for ‘Best Ongoing Game’ replaces the previous award for ‘Best Add-on /DLC’. There are also some new categories, such as ‘Best eSports Experience’, ‘Best Action-Adventure’ or ‘Best Fighting Game’.”
