E-Sports as a course of study: here you can get your degree in gamble

Get a degree in gambling? This is now possible in Mittweida. A new course of studies was introduced there.

New at Mittweida University: Whether League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege or Fifa – gamers can turn their hobby into their profession in the district of Central Saxony starting next autumn.

The Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is the first state university in Germany to offer eSports for studying.

“eSports and Games Marketing” is the name of the new specialisation in the Bachelor’s programme “Media Management”. “The industry urgently needs professional managers who combine marketing and games knowledge in one person,” says Professor Alexander Marbach (40). “Of course, we are also looking at the games that shape eSports – in addition to League of Legends, multiplayer shooters and sports simulations will also play a role.

In addition to an understanding of the eSports community and a feel for marketing, applicants should above all have “an enthusiasm for playing”.

Interested students can apply for the new course by 15 July.
