Europe versus North America, LEC versus LCS. That’s what the Rift Rivals 2019 in Los Angeles are all about, with six teams competing from Thursday to Saturday. Especially G2 Esports is the favourite for the tournament.
Los Angeles (dpa) – On Thursday the League of Legends Rift Rivals 2019 will start in Los Angeles. The three-day tournament will bring together the three most successful teams of the North American LCS League and the European LoL-Liga LEC.
With home advantage, the NA teams Team Liquid, Team SoloMid and Cloud9 will enter the race. After Cloud9 last shone during the 2018 World Cup in South Korea, Team Liquid even reached the final at the Mid-Season Invitational in May this year. There Team Liquid lost against G2 Esports, one of the European rivals at the Rift Rivals 2019. G2 Esports is accompanied by the other European representatives Origen and Fnatic.
Measured by the performances of previous months, G2 Esports will certainly stand out as the top favourite for the tournament. But last weekend the team had to admit defeat against the archrival Fnatic in the LEC.
While these two teams can calculate the highest chances for victory, Team Liquid around Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng (25) is the biggest North American hope especially when the Europeans should not take the competition, which takes place in the middle of the regular season of the LEC and LCS, completely seriously.
Players from all teams have said in recent weeks that the timing of the competition is rather inconvenient for them. Due to the possible impact of the trips on the European teams, the LEC will even be interrupted for two weeks.
