Team Liquid wins the final in Cologne against Vitality and wins the title endowed with one million US dollars. The Lanxess Arena in Cologne is well attended.
The Counter-Strike stars of Team Liquid have won the big jackpot at the ESL One Cologne. On Sunday, the North Americans won the final of the prestigious eSports tournament in the cathedral city against Vitality from France with 3:1 (16:6, 17:19, 16:10, 16:8). With their fourth tournament victory on the Grand Slam series, the world number one secured the title, which is endowed with one million US dollars.
Liquid also earned 125,000 US dollars for their success at ESL One. Vitality, who had slightly surprised Danish major winner Astralis by throwing him out of the tournament in the semi-final on Saturday, is taking home 50,000 dollars. The best German team BIG had already been eliminated in the group phase and thus missed the final round, which was played from Friday to Sunday at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne in front of 15,000 spectators every day.
Liquid also top favourite in Berlin
The ESL One Cologne took place for the sixth time in Cologne, for the fifth time in a row in the Lanxess Arena. The tournament was endowed with a total of 300,000 US dollars.
In the Grand Slam series, the team receives the additional million-dollar prize that first wins four out of ten consecutive events. The victory in Cologne also makes Liquid the top favourite for the second major of the year, which will take place in Berlin in September.
