What Is Darken?

People use the term “darken” to describe a scenario in gaming, whereby a player makes a successful bet without analysing his or her dealt cards. There are so many similarities between a Darken and a Dark wager in gambling. Players usually use “darken” when they want to start the betting Dark, that is, to play a card even before looking at the at hand.

The two terms (a Darken and a Dark wager) work simultaneously with each other. There are also many reasons why players would make a Dark or Darken Bet while playing. Below are a selection of such reasons:
One of the reasons is showboating. In showboating, a number of experts of poker occasionally make a Darken only to impress their audience during a competition involving the use of cards to gamble.

Mathematical skill in gaming is the second reason. More often than not, when players do not have any chips left, they may have no choice but to play darken. By doing so, they will increase the tension and suspense amongst their challengers in the game.
The following scenario is an example to illustrate “darken”. Assuming, for instance, the players at the table price the big blind at ten, but you only have fifteen worth in chips left. Therefore, you must pay the ten you owe if you are on the big blind. Keep in mind that your payment does not consider how many chips you have left; whether it is five chips left or less.

As a consequence, it is necessary for you to act effectively on time. On top of that, since you were required to put most of your pot on the big blind, it would be sensible to put in your remaining five chips as soon as it is your turn to play your round again.
First and foremost, you do not need to let others know the moment you want to play Darken. But, if you tell them, you might get an upper hand over other players since your hand is clear and uncertain at the same time. As a consequence, your challengers might decide to fold their bets, and therefore, allow you to win the pot and move forward.
