What is Backdoor ?

Commonly called a backdoor straight, a backdoor is a hand in poker where three cards of the same suit are dealt specifically in the flop.
Players also need a fourth and a fifth for the river of the same suit. A backdoor flush is completed with the use of the remaining cards of the deal.

Backdoor Explained

Known as the one that was not intended, a backdoor hand is better than the hand you believed you could make.

In the case of a backdoor flush, you have to deal with the three diamonds in a game like Texas Holdem. The turn and the river also play a big role in making the flush.

When it comes to the backdoor straight, you need to be holding the 9-10-J as a player. You also need 7-8 clubs to make the straight successfully.

However, don’t heavily rely on a backdoor flush because its probability is lower than you think. It’s good to find other better alternatives that can help you achieve awesome results.
Since you’re required to bet on both the river and the turn to stay in your chosen game within a long period, it could be a costly hand to achieve. There’s no guarantee that both the river and the turn will be of the right sequential order. Use a strategy that will help you maximize the outcome at the end of the day.

Although the turn and the river aren’t guaranteed to be of the same suit, a backdoor straight or flush could make a massive difference between a call and a fold. But this difference is not enough. Statistically speaking, a backdoor flush is not worth holding out for.

A backdoor is often synonymous to a runner-runner. But each has differences that might confuse you as a poker enthusiast.

A backdoor refers to the resulting hand and the draw. Runner-runner, on the contrary only refers to the draw. For instance, a poker player hit runner-runner hearts or a backdoor flush draw.

A backdoor straight or flush is also an unintentional hand. Typically, a player tries to achieve a likely hand. Sometimes, they might bluff, and the other players would call it, forcing the bluffer for a longshot. With this, avid poker enthusiasts use the term backdoor as an unintentional hand. When it comes to the probability of a backdoor flush, it’s less than 5%.
