What Is an Add-on ?

In every poker tournament, there is always an add-on, that add-on is one of the features of the competition that allows a player to buy additional chips with the existing ones that come with the first buy-in. Buying extra add-on is made available to a player at a specific point in the tournament, and it comes in a set number of chips for a set fee that is equal to all players. If the game is a standard one, each player is entitled to the same amount of chips for their buy-in fee and in the process, they fight things out till the end. With the advantage of the add-on feature in the game, players have the privilege of topping up at a certain point.

Add-on explained

In a poker tournament, add-on allows players buy extra chips at a designated point which makes a surplus to the chips they have at hand before the start of the game; this usually happens immediately after buying in or during the first break. The rule of the game does not make an add-on possible during the tournament except before and during the first break.

Even as a regular poker tournament has a specific set buy-in fee and a set number of chips to be received, slight variations are not the rule of the game. For instance, at times in a tournament, a player can rebuy in a situation where the player has lost all his chips so they could buy their way back in the game. A poker player will still have their add-ons available to them regardless of their stack size unlike when they find themselves in situations of buy-ins when a player is left with no chips and want to stay in the game.

Unlike buy-ins, add-ons vary significantly from tournament to tournament, but some factors like the timing, the number of chips and, sometimes, the price, are made known to each player of the competition before entry and the start of the game. Generally, in a poker game, tournaments that comprise add-ons and buy-ins tends to last longer than games that involve players without these features despite that the same number and set of players required in the two conditions.
