30 million dollars are not enough: “Fortnite” World Championship

How many millions can it be? 20? 30? Or even more? The two multipayer hits “Dota 2” by Valve and Epics “Fortnite” currently outperform each other in terms of prize money for their major eSports events.

Anyone who still doubts that eSports is a serious entertainment branch should take a look at the prize money offered by manufacturers such as “Fortnite” rider Epic, Valve or “Overwatch” manufacturer Blizzard. Epic had announced that it would pay out 100 million US dollars for this year alone – 30 million of which at the “Fortnite World Cup Finals” in New York, the highest endowed tournament in games history to date, starting on 26th July alone. The winners of the “Solo” and “Duos” modes can get each bag three million dollars – more than this year’s Wimbeldon winner.

A record that will soon be part of history: The prize pot for Valves’ upcoming “Dota 2” lead event “The International” (August 20-25) has even exceeded the 30 million dollar mark. He started with a comparatively modest $1.6 million deposit. After that, the sum rose rapidly because 25 per cent of the income generated by Valve through sales of the new “Dota 2” Battle Pass goes into the pot.

A Battle Pass with level 50 costs 26 Euro, one with level 100 costs almost 40 Euro. The result of user loyalty: already more than 30.15 million dollars in prize money for the participants and winners of the “Dota 2” championship!

Valve has thus reclaimed the trophy for the biggest eSport prize money and won the points against the budding rival Epic. Since the online store of Steam, the established games platform, has been taking away more and bigger game titles, both companies are at a clinch.
