Lionel Messi faces his favourite victim, in the new stage of Barca with Ansu Fati as a figure. The Andalusians arrive with Acuna and Ocampos.
Barcelona and Seville faced each other in a duel at the Camp Nou this Sunday, October 4. It ended with the 5th place of the tournament. And the local team was unable to beat a Seville that played well and had its chances.
It was a confrontation between the only two teams that had achieved an ideal result in the two matches played. And Lionel Messi could not score this time against his favourite “victim”. He was about to score a goal in all the games he played against them.
The game started spectacularly and with many goals, with two goals in 9 minutes. Barcelona scored a poor set-goal, and at the exit of a short corner. Suso scored a hook shot against Ansu Fati. A centre, a half-volley from the local De Jong and a goal from the host De Jong.
The joy in Seville did not last long, with Coutinho drawing before a poor Navas closed the gap on Messi.
At least it was a balanced first semester. Barcelona was essentially looking for the left with Ansu Fati. Also, the company that could improve with Coutinho and Messi. Sevilla did not stay in its field but attacked with triangulations and the game behind the sides.
The second half was already weaker, with Sevilla dominating more. There was a shot to a post for a ball that almost landed in Araujo. In the end, Barcelona seemed complete, but they could not break the tie.
Without brilliant performances and amid a change in their style of play, Ronald Koeman’s new Barcelona had managed to win the first two games with a series of goals and maintain their undefeated record.
Lionel Messi handed most of the tent to the young Ansu Fati. The outstanding figure of Barcelona at the start of the League, who scored three of his team’s seven goals on two occasions.
He scored a double in his 4-0 victory over Villarreal and the remaining goal in his 3-0 win over Celta Vigo. With the additional advantage that these were the goals that opened the scoring.
In this context, Messi is less involved in the game. However, his presence always poses a threat to the opponent’s defence. So that he was the mastermind of one of Barca’s goals in Vigo, the one he scored against Uruguayan field defender Lucas Plaza after a group of Argentines entered the penalty area.
Against Sevilla, the Argentinean scored 37 goals in 40 matches (29 in La Liga, 4 in the Spanish Supercup, 2 in the King’s Cup and 2 in the European Supercup). The last goal came almost a year ago, on October 6, 2019, when Barcelona beat Sevilla 4-0 in the Camp Nou.
Sevilla was the third and last test before the stop on the date of the FIFA and undoubtedly the most complicated of this first leg.
Sevilla travelled to Barcelona to play its fourth official match of the season in ten days after the course had started on September 24 in Budapest with the final of the European Super Cup against Bayern Munich (2-1 defeat).
The visit of Sevilla to the field of the azulgranas is almost always a martyrdom. It shown by the fact that it had lost the last eleven matches played at the Camp Nou, it also did not score points since its 0-0 draw in the 2011-12 League. Also, it has not won since January 2010, in the round of sixteen of the King’s Cup.
