2K yesterday officially announced the details for the NBA 2k20s “MyTEAM Unlimited $250,000 Tournament”.
To qualify for the so-called Qualifier GameDays, participants must play games in MyTEAM Unlimited mode as they did last year. Players with teams of 13 freely selectable player cards from their deck will compete against each other in a regular 5 vs. 5 game with NBA rules.
The prerequisite for participating in one of these GameDays is ten victories in the same Unlimited mode. On the match days themselves, participants have four hours to win as many games as possible. The more victories a player wins, the more points he receives. The participants with the four highest final scores at the end of each match day qualify for the final elimination tournament.
In total, there are four of these qualifiers GameDays. These will take place on the following dates:
First qualifier GameDay: October 12th, 2019
Second qualifier GameDay: November 16th, 2019
Third qualifier GameDay: December 14th 2019
Fourth qualifier GameDay: January 18th 2020
Players can try to get into the top 4 scorers on several matchdays, provided they have achieved the ten presumed victories in MyTEAM Ultimate mode.
The final elimination tournament will begin on January 25th, 2023. Then a total of 32 qualifiers – 16 via PlayStation 4, 16 via Xbox One – will compete against each other until only one participant per console remains. 2K will then invite the two winners to the NBA All-Star Game 2020 in Chicago, where they will play the final in best-of-three mode and thus also the winner of the 250,000 US dollar prize money.
Last year’s premiere of the NBA 2K Unlimited $250,000 Tournament featured over a million players. More than 15 million qualifiers were played during the five-month competition period.
It is expected that even more players will try their luck this year to have a chance to win the $250,000 jackpot in Chicago on February 16th.
