In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the developers immediately removed the new Storm-Turner from the game for eSports. The new item is probably too gross for tournaments, but optimal for fun rounds.
Which item is it about? The Storm-Turner has come into play with patch 9.20. It’s a kind of bomb that either creates a storm or, if you throw it into the storm, creates a safe zone. That goes 20 seconds and is both a good offensive and defensive item.
What is the problem with the new item? The radius and duration are really large, which confuses the gameplay a lot. That’s why the Storm-Turner didn’t go down very well with the pros, especially since one of the hotly contested Fortnite qualifying rounds for the World Cup will retake place this weekend.
Especially in the endgame, a large additional storm zone or a safe haven in the storm are quite extreme and throw a lot of tactics and habits overboard.
The controversial item could return after WM-Quali
That’s what the developers did: Hardly after the release of the Storm-Turner, the developers temporarily removed it from the loot lists of the competitive formats. So you won’t see the Storm-Turner in the World Cup qualifying rounds this weekend.
How do the fans react? The pros welcome Epic’s decision, but wonder on Reddit why the item came into play in this seemingly completely overpowered state:
“Someone has to ask that question: How is it that you didn’t realize how grossly exaggerated this item was before you released it?
Is the Storm Turner still coming to the eSports? In addition, the Epics statement only states that the Storm-Turner is “temporarily” banned from the tournament lists.
So it’s quite possible that the item will be back on the competitive lists regularly after the World Cup Qualifying Weekend and could also be in play regularly for the next qualifying round or even for the World Cup in July.
Epic still rejects permanently separate loot lists for Casual and Competitive.
