Fnatic, Origen and G2 Esports have won the Rift Rivals 2019 against North America on behalf of the European League of Legends League LEC. In front of a home crowd in Los Angeles, however, the North American teams did better than initially expected.
With four victories in four games on opening day, the LEC started the tournament well expected. In the run-up to the tournament, there were even doubts as to whether the LCS teams Cloud9, Team Liquid and Team Solo Mid could even win against the LEC. On the second day of the tournament, there was an answer to at least this question.
After the final defeat at the Mid-Season Invitational 2019, Team Liquid still had a score to settle with G2 Esports. So the Americans defeated G2 Esports twice in a row. A big surprise, as G2 Esports went into the tournament with a strong tailwind as the supposedly strongest team.
In contrast to G2, Esports Fnatic did not buy the cutting edge. With wins against all three representatives of the LCS, Fnatic contributed significantly to the European victory. Origen was also able to prove itself nationwide with three victories.
All in all, however, these results are not very meaningful. At the annual meeting of the two major western regions, the entertainment factor is more important than the sporting performance.
