Mega prize money! TI breaks records

Just over a month before “The International 2019”, it’s already clear that the Dota tournament will be about record prize money – and the sum could even rise.

Record prize money at “Dota: The International 2019” – and no end in sight!

Even as the prize pool for the mega-event broke the standards of last year within the first 24 hours, the first speculations began as to whether the community could also break the 30 million dollar mark this time.

Now one thing is certain: it could! And it could come even better.

The pool system used by developer Valve is unique in these dimensions in eSports. To explain: The developer provides each year a pool starting money, to which then additionally 25 per cent of all incomes from the Dota 2 Battle Pass sales come.

The Battle Pass is a virtual goodie for the Dota players. The community thus contributes a considerable share to the prize pool of the tournament, which takes place from August 15th to 25th.

Valve’s entry fee this year is $1.6 million, plus the Battle Pass revenue.

Halfway through the previous year’s period exceeded

Already on July 1st, the pool for 2019 reached the final level of 2018 – within only two months, 25.5 million US dollars had been collected.

In the meantime, the magic 30 million dollar mark has also been surpassed: “The International 2019” is thus the single tournament with the largest prize pool in eSports history to date!

Even the dimensions of the Fortnite World Cup were surpassed, where there will be 30 million US dollars to dust off from 26 to July 28th in New York. The teams to participate in the Super Tournament have already been selected.

Prize money sum will still rise

Particularly noteworthy in view of the prize money for “The International 2019”: there is still just under a month to fill the pool further.

A few days ago Valve presented her very first Hero “Persona”. It’s not just an optical rework of an already existing hero, but also new sound recordings and animations have been added.

This “Acolyte of the Lost Arts” special for the Invoker is available from a Battle Pass level 305.
Ten of these levels will now be donated to all Battle Pass owners by the developer Valve for reaching the 30 million milestone.

At the same time, this clever move will certainly boost Battle Pass sales once again.

So it remains to be seen to what dizzying heights the prize money of “The International 2019” will rise.
