Even a defeat in the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitationals’ eighth group match cannot stop G2 from reaching the semi-finals.
Europe’s best League of Legends team G2 eSport has prematurely reached the semi-finals of the Mid-Season Invitational in Vietnam and Taiwan.
Thanks to a victory against the Taiwanese starter Flash Wolves, the team of the German head coach Fabian “Grabbz” Lohmann can no longer be denied their participation in the knockout round.
The defeat against the Chinese world champion Invictus Gaming in Monday’s eighth group match in Hanoi was no longer of any consequence.
Like the Chinese, last year’s World Cup semi-finalist G2 can no longer be ousted by one of the first four places in the group of six before the final matchday of the group stage.
The exact composition of the semi-finals (17 and 18 May) will be decided on Tuesday when G2 will face Phong Vu Buffalo from Vietnam (13:00) and North American Champion Team Liquid (15:00). The final will take place on 19 May.
The Mid-Season Invitational is a kind of mini world championship where the champions of all major leagues duel. It is considered the first important test of the world’s best teams after the spring and before the summer season.
The highlight of the season is the Autumn World Championship in Europe, the final of which will take place in Paris.
