Spanish football record-holders Real Madrid lost the lead to arch-rivals FC Barcelona on Matchday 9 of the Primera División.
The injured team of Toni Kroos, a missing national player, missed out on a 0-1 (0-1) draw with RCD Mallorca. Barca had previously won the Basque club SD Eibar 3-0 (1-0) thanks to goals from world champions Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
“The problem is that we have to show that we are good every three days,” said Real coach Zinédine Zidane, “but we didn’t do that today. Our game must become more alive if we are to achieve our goals this season”.
With 19 points, Barca took the top position for the first time this season and is already the fifth team after Real (18), Atlético Madrid, FC Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao to take first place this season. “A night of missed opportunities,” headlined “Marca”, criticising the Real stars’ attitude and attitude.
Kroos missing from Real bankruptcy
On Mallorca, Real showed a disappointing performance in their first defeat of the season. Without Kroos (groin injury), the Zidane team did hardly anything. The attacking trio with James, Karim Benzema and Luka Jovic were always dissipated in their actions. After a yellow-red defeat of Álvaro Odriozola (74th), a final offensive was not enough for the Mallorcans, so that an early goal from Junior Lago (7th) was enough for the third victory of the season.
Barca, on the other hand, was very enthusiastic: Griezmann (14) was successful with a left-foot shot after a counterattack. In the 59th minute, Frenchman Messi, who had no trouble raising the score to 2:0, played. Messi, on the other hand, prepared Suarez’s 3-0 win in the 67th minute. Marc-Andre ter Stegen had little to do in the Catalan goal.
