Lewis Hamilton won his 91st Eifel GP yesterday, equalling Michael Schumacher as the most outstanding winner in history. Anthony Hamilton has been immensely happy about his son’s achievement. But he has also felt some sadness about the fact that Michael could not be at the Nurburgring.
Mick Schumacher handed the Briton one of his father’s 2012 helmets. After the race and congratulated him on breaking the record that belonged to Michael. The heptachampion could not be present, as it is in Switzerland recovering from a severe skiing accident suffered in 2013. Anthony Hamilton regrets that the one who gave the helmet to Lewis was not Michael.
“Although it has been an exciting day and it is certainly an honour to receive this from Mick Schumacher. It also tings with a little sadness that Michael is not here. As Lewis said yesterday, we have spent a lot of time watching Michael run. We admire him immensely,” Anthony told the British Daily Express.
With the achievement of the Mercedes driver and the almost specific seventh title, he will win at the end of the season. Anthony Hamilton looked back and wished Michael well.
“I thought about it this morning. We’ve been on the road to motor racing success for 30 years now. It would have been great for Michael to be here, but we wish him all the best,” he said in closing.
For his part, Lewis Hamilton has made it clear that it doesn’t end here and that he wants more. He reaffirms his passion for Formula 1 and admits that he is in perfect shape, so he plans to continue fighting at the highest level for a long time.
“Of course, I can set goals, and I’ll go ahead and see what’s possible. I love the sport, the smell, the aura and the atmosphere it creates and it’s going to be hard to let go. Even though I’m older than these kids, I feel as young as they do. That will change when I start to get grey, but for now, I’m fine,” he joked to the Daily Mail.
