What are Outside Bets ?

Gambling and sports betting use the term outside bets. It refers to wagers made that aren’t likely to win. The outcome needed to win the bet is not expected to happen in this case. The odds are always long when an outside bet is placed. If these odds are defied and a win occurs, the win is usually a large one.

Roulette players are familiar with outside bets. This is any bet they make that doesn’t specifically involve a chosen number. Instead, they bet on a group of numbers or colour that they think the ball will land on. These types of bets are easier for players to win than others. Away from the main game table, they are bet on by placing a casino chip in the appropriate place.

Outside Bets Explained

Very long odds are always in place when an outside bet is placed. In a handicap (found in a horse race), outside bets are often used by players. The reason for this is that the horses in the race all have an equal chance of winning. An example of an outside bet on a horse is 100/1 odds. These are very unlikely odds, but can sometimes be successful. There were five winners of the Grand National that had 100/1 odds.

Roulette bets placed away from the game table are outside bets. An inside bet occurs when players put money on any number between one and thirty-six. If the wheel lands on the number that a player picked, they win. When bets are split between various numbers it is also referred to as an outside bet. There are two lines of numbers that players can bet on. One is eight and eleven, the other is eleven or 17/18. Betting on both lines in one round is an outside bet. Inside bets are those that involve the numbers in the four corners of the game table.

Outside bets get their name because the numbers are away from the table. Examples of outside bets in Roulette are odd/even and red/black. Two sets of thirds are also outside bets when placed by players. Outside bets pay less than inside bets but are more likely to win. The casino house edge is less for outside bets than inside bets. Any outside bet placed is usually even money. This means if players win, they get twice the money they bet, on that particular game.
