What are Co-favourites ?
Players call bets Co-favorites when there is a higher chance of winning. The word is more commonly used in sports like horse and greyhound racing. However, it can also be used in other popular events like TV programmes, politics and so on. Examples of other games where you can find the use of the word are in rugby matches, Formula One Grand Prix and sports like Football league championships and so on. Most of the time, the word is used dynamically to identify potential winners in a competing tournament.
Co-favourites Explained
Some refer to the term as ‘joint favourites’; it is used to recognise and at the same time know, the participants in an event who are considered to be the favourites to win in the contest. For example, if there is a competition among two horses listed as 7/1 co-favourites, you can place a bet of either of them at a starting price. If any of the horses you choose wins 7/1, you will be paid out at that price in seven places. Placing a $10 bet on the winning horse will automatically earn you $70 with your $10 stake. When there is more than one favourite competing to win a game, that does not in any way affect your chances of winning and does not have anything to do with the amount you earn.
As games differ, you may find a lot of favourites listed in some prestigious horse races depending on the size of the field of action. For example, the Cheltenham horse-racing festival features up to thirty competitors as the festival is organised on a more extensive ground, allowing spectators to have more choice in games to select. Events of this nature, with a large number of favourites, show that the competitors are greater and the risk-taking level is higher in the betting market.
