What is Breaking Hand ?

Many players are quite confused as to the difference between the two Blackjack terms, ‘bust’ and a ’breaking hand’. The definitions of the terms may seem similar, but they both have significant differences. In Blackjack, a ‘breaking hand’ is a hand that has the potential to go beyond 21 and can ‘break’ with a one-card draw, like a hard 12 to 16.
Whereas the term ‘bust’, on the other hand, is a hand with a total value that has, in that moment, exceeded 21.

Commonly known as a stiff or hard hand, a breaking hand is also considered a blackjack hand that does not have an ace or the possibility to go over 21 with the addition of another card drawn. .
In the gaming world of blackjack, hands can be considered ‘soft’ or ‘hard’. When it comes to the most important card in the game; it’s an ace. This card has two uses, players can either count it as a one or an 11. It depends on the gamer’s requirements. A ‘breaking hand’ refers to a hand where there is no ace, or where the ace in the hand must be considered a 1 in order not to go bust. For example, a hand with an ace, a five, and a seven can be classified as a Hard 13. In this case, it’s important to count the ace as a 1 otherwise the hand would become bust if counted as an 11.

Therefore, the ‘break card’ is the card that sends the hand over 21. Playing blackjack can be challenging and fun. Although you are a beginner, you can play like a pro. Just make sure you understand the importance of breaking hands, break cards, and other rules.
