The play-offs of Stage 2 of the second Overwatch League Season will take place this weekend. SPORT1 collects all information about the eSports-Megaevent.
Phase two of the second season of the Overwatch League is slowly coming to an end, so it’s time for the highly anticipated phase play-offs at the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, California.
Friday in the early hours of the morning it will be time again – and this time the fight for the 500,000 dollar prize pool of the second phase can be more exciting than ever before, as two teams will have a good chance to overthrow the current defending champion, the Vancouver Titans, from the top.
San Francisco Shock vs Shanghai Dragons
In the first game, the Shanghai Dragons, previously known for their incredibly long series of defeats during the first season, will be allowed to face San Francisco Shock.
Just a week before the play-offs, the two teams had played against each other. Even though the card victories were sometimes very close, SFS managed to secure a 4-0 win in the end.
This victory also continued a so far unique winning series. SFS has not yet had to give a single card in this second phase of the season to the opponent team.
So two teams looked bad in the first season but now have the chance to start through. Who will take the win at the end is hard to judge after the last game.
But if SFS is able to get “DDING”, the Sombra player of the Dragons, under control, it will probably result in another sovereign victory for Shock.
Hangzhou Spark vs London Spitfire
The two teams last met at the end of February, which resulted in a 3-1 win for London.
For Spark, this phase was generally a bit bumpy. The lineup could not defeat a single team in a 4-0 win but always had to suffer a few card losses.
Spitfire also suffered a shocking defeat against the otherwise rather unsuccessful Chengdu Hunters, but in general, the European team seemed more steadfast than Spark.
Los Angeles Gladiators vs New York Excelsior
These two teams haven’t met for the entire season, which will make the encounter particularly exciting.
What counts here is who manages to put in a more consistent performance, as both teams had started strongly into the phase, but then visibly decreased.
While New York is particularly struggling to use their ultimate skills effectively and to talk to each other, the Gladiators have shown clear weaknesses, especially on control cards.
Los Angeles also stood out because they had to deal at least one card against almost every team.
It’s difficult to make a reliable assessment of the encounter between these two teams, but the gladiators could barely score with the flexibility and choice of their players.
Dallas Fuel vs Vancouver Titans
It was not until the end of April that these two teams met, which makes it relatively easy to make an assessment here, as Fuel was overrun by Vancouver during this encounter.
Generally speaking, Dallas Fuel was not able to go into the best second phase after the team had just missed the play-offs in the first phase.
The Texans, however, managed to win the games that really counted in the table to push their way up.
The Titans, on the other hand, remain completely true to their name in this second phase and have not let three 4-0 victories be taken in this phase. The Canadian team even won the last phase play-offs.
The situation for Dallas in this match is therefore very gloomy. The chances are high that the Vancouver Titans will also win this match.
